I am SICK and TIRED of anti-GOP sentiment. And I'm especially sick of stereotyping conservatives. I read a comment on a Young Turks video on YouTube that said, "Pat Robertson is a typical Republican. That's why Democrats are more popular."

If there's one way to make me blow my top, it's to say "typical x", especially when "x" is something that partly defines ME.

Pat Robertson is NOT a "typical Republican." The "typical Republican" in question is a hater. A bigot. Somebody who blames the Southern California wildfires of the mid 00s on gay marriage. Somebody who blames the Haiti tragedy on a pact with the Devil. I'm begging your pardon, but NOT ALL REPUBLICANS ARE CRAZY, BIGOTED SCUMBAGS WHO SEEK TO FULFILL ONLY THEIR OWN AGENDA!

Part of me wants to change to an Independent because I'm sick of partisan politics. But part of me wants to change to avoid this STUPID "Republicans are x" bull-ess. I don't stereotype because GOD doesn't want me to. You're black? You're still human. You're gay? You're still human. You're a Democrat? You're still human. You're a serial killer? You're still human. You're an atheist? You're still human. You're the Pope? You're still human. I view everybody through the same eyes. And I am a registered Republican. So STOP CALLING ME NAMES! STOP CALLING ME CRAZY! STOP CALLING ME A HATER, RACIST, BIGOT, SEXIST, MISOGYNIST, or ANY OTHER name you can come up with that describes the "typical Republican."

Calling me names makes you NO BETTER than the ideology you're trying to demean.

I'd respectfully point out that you have answered your own dilemma. Leave the party! The GOP of today is a farce. You will be judged by the company you keep, and no one will assume you are a reasonable, sane person if you claim to be a Republican.
Being strictly conservative might also put in the completely unhinged league of the teabaggers, who are even more extreme than the GOP.
5 years ago I registered as an independent, and I have never regretted it. If you are on the roles as a party affiliate, they take your vote for granted, and won't bother to campaign with any honesty.
As an independent, I can keep them guessing, and make those candidates work for my vote.
Now imagine if there were millions more independents? Neither party could afford to assume they had anybodys vote, and they would have to work a lot harder to earn them.
Just my 2 cents, because I share your frustration with what passes for dialogue these days. What ever happened to 'loyal opposition', the side that is supposed to be able to honestly debate ideas to get the best solution? Instead we have liberals that can't seem to muster the political strength to do anything, even when they have the power, vs. the party of NO. The GOP strategy these days seems to be to starve the government of money through tax cuts, and then bitch about how ineffective it is. Brilliant. If the GOP wants the government to be that small, why do they keep running for office? It doesn't make ANY sense!
I may just have to vote for the Green Party candidate next go around. They make more sense than any of the other two name brand parties.
